My Review:
After reading The 11 Laws of Likability, by Michelle Tillis Lederman, I’ve discovered a different outlook on networking.
“Our energy is in proportion to the resistance it meets.” – William Hazlitt, 17th Century Essayist
As much as many would like to disagree, there’s no way to deny it … people do business with people they like. It’s not that I’m saying that it’s all about looks; in no way, shape, or form, am I saying this. You can test this theory yourself … are you more apt to accept something from someone who is appealing to you? or from someone who is not?
What Lederman is trying to convey is simple: by forming a relationship, you are laying the foundation to success. By maintaining certain ‘tips’ in check, anyone can reaveal a likeable self … one that can leave a lasting good impression, one that can portray an image without seeming overpowering or manipulative. In other words, what you say should be sympatico with what your body is saying. Lederman has effectively put forth a list that everyone should implement into their daily lives. Simplicity at its purest: be you, be aware, and be flexible.
Through various examples, Lederman illustrates possible outcomes that teaches how to communicate/network in an authentic way. Lederman is very insightful, and has put together this essential guide to networking. I recommend that anyone interested in tweaking their networking skills should review The 11 Laws of Likability.
