Follow-up Review*:

Having read Money & Marriage, my partner and I found the entire Part One to be exceptionally useful to us. Part One “Decoding Each Other’s Financial DNA”, consists of three useful chapters: Chapter 2 – Getting Personal, Chapter 3 – Outside Influences: How Family, Personal Experiences, and Culture Affect Your Finances, and Chapter 4 – Inside Influences: How Your Temperaments Affect Your Finances.
“Life can only be understood backward, but it must be lived forward.” – Soren Kierkegaard
Matt Bell has several, wonderful strategies….many of them already in established in our relationship! Minimizing marital conflicts being one of our goals, we immediately saw the benefit in getting ‘financially personal’ with one another. We followed the various exercises, and discussed our individual answers. The extensive, step-by-step questionnaires guided us towards complete financial disclosure. This ‘personal discovery’ strategy helped us get to know more about our financial situation (as an individual coming into the relationship, and as a new couple), and helped us discuss our financial beliefs, wants, and needs. Our conversations were not easy, but they were essential in setting our goals. We better understand both the Outside and Inside influences, and how they can affect our finances. Working together, we can break out of our old financial habits, and work towards a common goal: our future. Our financial behaviour will continue to be influenced; however, we’ll be on the lookout! We’ve learned, financially, more about ourselves with Money & Marriage, than I ever thought possible.
Going forward, we expect our Money & Marriage situation to be just fine. What’s always necessary? Open, and honest communication….about everything (money included)!
